My Mother’s best friend Leta Cordes has been missing since January 11, 2008 In Sint Maarten / Saint Martin, Caribbean.
Trouble in paradise: The St. Maarten mystery
Please visit LetaCordes.com for more details.
“The Cordes couple was solid on the outside, but with a deep crack running beneath the surface. Maybe that was easier to ignore, after they bought a house on an island in the sun. Easier to ignore, until the night Leta Cordes disappeared. Join NBC’s Dennis Murphy for “The Party’s Over” this Friday at 8 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. CT.”
Update: Unfortunately Frank Cordes continually tried to mislead Dateline.
First and foremost, cadaver dog are highly trained to only react to human remains. I worked with both of the cadaver dogs and their handlers on two different occasions and witnessed first hand how well trained these dogs are (a week long search back in November of ’08, and the other week long search that was seen on Dateline in February of ’09). The Dutch authorities, as well as the security teams that aided in our searches know how well trained these dogs are, and Frank’s claims are groundless.
Human remains have a unique scent that the cadaver dogs are trained to pick up on, and are trained not to react to animal blood of any other species. The notion that these dogs would react to ketchup, food of any kind, or anything else is simply not accurate. Human remains give off a unique “death scent” composed of an unique chemical signature that these dogs are vigorously trained on from an extremely early age so that they do not react or “hit” on anything else.
Both dogs have recovered bodies in the past, and one of the dogs even serves in Iraq to help find the remains of US soldiers. The US military trusts what this dog is capable of, and so do I.
As for the “pool of dog blood” supposedly found at the house next to Frank and Leta’s, as far as I know this is simply not true. To reiterate, even if dog blood was found the cadaver dogs would not have reacted to it anyway.
As for all the other lies, I will let you be the judge.

Was thinking about Leta for some reason today and her Dateline profile…it has been almost a year since it aired. Did anything come out of the show? Any new information?
@Brooke
Sadly, nothing came from Dateline, we received no support, no donations, or anything really. I’m grateful for them covering the story, but ultimately it might have done the case more harm then good.
Unfortunately there isn’t any new information. Her remains have not been found, and Frank Cordes is free and I believe he relocated to Columbia.
I am sorry to hear that. Don’t give up hope.
