Julia Angwin’s MySpace Book

On January 25, 2009, in Life, Tech, by Trent Lapinski

Julia Angwin of the Wall Street Journal is finally publishing her book on MySpace this March concerning all the details of the rise of MySpace. As many of you might know, I played a role in breaking some of the initial details concerning MySpace’s conception, and proliferation (Thank you ValleyWag!). I was one of the first people to bring national attention to the simply screwed up business and personal practices of most of the executives involved with MySpace.

Having invested several years of my life to this story I’m glad Angwin picked up where I left off and is bringing everything to the publics attention. While I was not interviewed, or read the book yet, knowing everything I know and never published and what she’s probably stumbled upon is more than enough to make any honest hard working person cringe. The pure essence of MySpace since day one has been nothing more than spam, corruption, greed, and malice.

With that said, this is where my part in this story ends. I honestly want very little do with MySpace, DeWolfe, Anderson, Murdoch, Levinsohn, Rosenblatt, etc.

None of these people were tech visionaries, and they should never be hailed as the next Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. If anything, they are shining examples of everything that is wrong with this country today.
